Discovering our Addictions
This is a much larger topic than a blog entry, but I wanted to get the ball rolling. I will be writing much more about this in days to come.
It occurred to me today as I was interspersing my writing with games of Spider Solitaire how much of my time and energy goes towards habits and patterns that don’t serve my highest intentions. It took quite awhile before I realized that these habits were actually ‘addictions.’
I’m not saying that they are bad (or good) just that they hold a lot of our energy and that energy may be just the extra ‘stuff’ necessary to put us over the hump in realizing our most powerful goals.
So what are these addictions? I’m not referring in this blog to what we usually associate as addictions; i.e. alcohol and drugs. Let’s look at the more subtle, every day things. Here’s a start: food, solitaire, fantasies and favorite tv shows. This is a starter list. Add your own and if you feel inclined feel free to share. After all, we’re in this together.
Remember: we are in charge! We regulate our growth by the degree of commitment to our addictions!
